Designing the Loop—Circular Economy as a Business Case

The 14th VDID Designers' Breakfast 2026 shows how designers are developing the circular economy from a sustainability narrative into a business argumentation tool.
Circular economy is no longer purely a sustainability issue. In times of volatile markets, uncertain supply chains and regulatory dynamics, circular economy is becoming a strategic necessity. But while designers know the levers in product development, the entrepreneurial translation is often missing. This is exactly where the 14th VDID Designers' Breakfast 2026 comes in.
Under the motto "Designing the Loop—Circular Economy as a Business Case", the event shifts the discourse from moral argumentation to economic logic.
The central question is: How does the circular economy become a strategic competitive advantage – and what role does design play in this?
The breakfast itself combines:
- strategic classification
- practical experience reports
- consulting perspectives
- industrial reality
Emotional longevity, reparability, modular product architectures and circular business models are discussed as concrete sales levers—not as additional ecological requirements.
The event clearly positions design as:
- a transformation enabler
- a business translator
- a strategic partner on equal footing
The event is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. As part of the application process, bayern design provided advisory support.
