Master’s students from the Department of Design present projects that explore how new practices, formats, and product systems can be developed in the home and kitchen, and in relation to food.
During the winter semester, students on the Master’s programme in »Applied Design Research« explored how new practices, formats, and product systems can be developed in the home and kitchen and in relation to food, applying sufficiency—that is, moderation, simplification, and the conservation of resources—as their guiding principle. Taking their starting point as the Ancient Greek term »oikos«—which referred both to the household and to the principle of prudent, community-oriented economic management—they asked themselves how current and future dietary practices might be shaped.
Under the supervision of Prof. Matthias Edler-Golla, Prof. Markus Frenzl, and Prof. Dr Eileen Mandir, the students developed five different projects. These projects focus on re-evaluating convenience food, a new form of nutritional therapy in clinical care, community food provision in the city, rethinking personal dietary practices, and the question of how the Planetary Health Diet can be combined with Bavarian traditions.
As part of the 2026 mcbw, which has the motto »Playground of Possibilities,« the Department of Design at Munich University of Applied Sciences is presenting its »Playground Zeughaus,« an introduction to its diverse range of activities in a variety of events held in the historic Zeughaus.
