A framework that uses technology to foster culture.
The high-quality lighting design we embrace at ERCO also requires a unique design approach when specialized lighting tools are developed. The aim is to transform technology into culture, whether by applying light in architecture or by the design of the products, systems, and networks that enable this light.
Our modern expectations of comfort are shaped by a multitude of technical solutions and universally pervasive connectivity. These products and systems need to be helpful and solve problems withou generating further confusion and dependency. This touches upon one of the main tasks of design: the shaping of human-machine interfaces, but also the question of our needs and aspirations for the future.
SoftTech is a value-based position within ERCO's product design operations, from which we look towards this future. This approach defines values that must address human perception and sensitivity, as well as examine solutions in terms of their appropriateness in relation to resources and society.
The development history of products such as the ERCO "Lucy" table lamp or the IKU track downlight serve as further illustrations of this design philosophy.
