Karen Modrei

Karen Modrei lives and works as a freelance artist in Munich.
After training as a tailor, she completed a bachelor's degree in architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and a master's degree in textile art at Konstfack in Stockholm.
In her transdisciplinary practice, she examines private space as a narrative body and critically engages with its inherent narratives and stereotypical roles.
Using everyday objects and textile craft processes as her starting point, she develops installations and sound performances that playfully, but most importantly defiantly, engage with patriarchal value systems, gender-specific hierarchies, and power structures that have yet to be overcome.
