Prof. Dr.
Melanie Schirmer
Melanie Schirmer is a tenure track professor at TUM, where her lab uses computational and experimental methods to investigate the role oft he human microbiome in health and disease. By analyzing multi-omics data from large clinical cohorts, her team predicts host-microbial interactions computationally, then validates and investigates these findings experimentally.
She studied mathematics in Bonn and obtained her PhD in computational biology in Glasgow. After a postdoc at the Broad Institute & Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she established her group at TUM in 2020, supported by Emmy Noether and ERC Starting Grants. Recognized as a highly cited researcher since 2021, she became Rudolf Moessbauer Professor for Translational Microbiome Data Integration in 2023.
